‘Keep It Simple’

 In A thought, Articles

It’s amazing how much I can get done or how many more ideas I have when I have a moment to stop and catch my breath.

Not only was I slow to get back in the swing of production, I seemed to have no time to get any of the work done for everything else I had to do. The stress was starting to get to me (my ebony afro now with a single strand of silver!) and, worst of all, it was affecting the work I care most about, 4381.

Growing up, my parents always helped ease whatever pressures my brothers and I thought we felt by telling us ‘to keep things simple’. Afterwards, everything would seem so much more effortless because of it. When I began researching songs with narrative lyrics, I drew a complete blank. Even when our EP gave several examples, I just could not connect. And after realizing I still didn’t have a solid song choice in play, I had to go back to the drawing board; back to basics, ‘keep it simple’.

With the gift of a personal day, I have been able, not only catch up but, get back on track… Mostly. I’ve had moments of doubt stop me in tracks and literally make me question life a few times, but, once I was able to dig out from under all that was piling up on me, take a step back to reassess things, I began to see light at the end of the proverbial tunnel. Believe, I’m working with renewed vigor.

More to come… Stay tuned!
