Red 11 is the latest film directed by Robert Rodriguez on a $7,000 budget. It tells the story of a young filmmaker named Rob who checks himself into a medical research facility in order to pay off a debt. Coming off the big budget action film Alita: Battle Angel, Rodriguez goes back to his roots for Red 11. At the start of his career Robert Rodriguez made the film El Mariachi on a shoe string budget with a very minuscule crew. The production of El Mariachi was documented in Rodriguez’s book Rebel Without a Film Crew, this book contains a chapter based off a real life experience that is reminiscent of Red 11. Using techniques that he utilized for El Mariachi, Red 11 is a great lesson in no-budget filmmaking.
