Then leans on me the weight of the year, and crushes
My heart. I know that Beauty must ail and die,
And will be born again–but ah, to seeBeauty stiffened, staring up at the sky!
Oh, Autumn! Autumn!–What is the Spring to me?
from ‘The Death of Autumn’ by Edna St. Vincent Millay
It’s Fall and for 4381, that means a new beginning and not the beginning of the end. Nights will be getting shorter, days cooler and opportunities to shine scarcer with each passing hour. Granted, we live near the sun and summer is still here in all it’s scorching glory and will hang on well into what the “civilized” world calls fall.
What does it mean and what does it matter? Well, it is true that the opportunities to shine become scarcer with each passing day. Remember that. In the case of 4381, we see people come and go every sixteen weeks. In the grand scheme of things, that is just a blip in most people’s lives. Just a blink of the eye and the weeks are gone.
New beginnings lead to endings. I could be a “Rah! Rah!” person. I could tell everyone how great they are, but that would be doing a disservice to everyone and to the concept of greatness.
No one is great by simply showing up. Perfect attendance should never be the definition of greatness.
I will say that everyone in 4381 has the potential to create incredible things. Everyone has the potential to make 4381 into a springboard to a future of amazing work and an incredible career.
It’s there for the taking. So, take it.
Be true to yourself. Be true to your vision. Now is not the time for compromise.
“I was never afraid of failure; for I would sooner fail than not be among the greatest.”
